Quick answer
ProntX provides a senior PPC consultant for UK businesses that want Google Ads run properly: audits, tracking fixes, account rebuilds and weekly management by the specialist you meet. It suits service firms, B2B companies and online shops, from £450 a month on rolling terms, with ad spend paid directly to Google.
PPC consultancy
What does a PPC consultant actually do?
A PPC consultant diagnoses why paid search is or is not producing customers, fixes the measurement, and then either runs the account or guides the people who do.
ProntX gives you a senior PPC consultant who audits your Google Ads account, explains what is really happening in plain English, and then manages it week by week if you want us to. Management starts from £450 a month, ad spend is paid directly to Google, and contracts roll monthly.
Most business owners do not go looking for a PPC consultant because things are going well. They go looking because spend is rising, leads are patchy, or the last agency sent reports full of clicks and impressions that never explained why the phone stopped ringing.
A good PPC specialist starts somewhere less glamorous than new campaigns: with the conversion tracking, the search terms report and the location settings. In our experience, that is where most of the money leaks out of an account, and it is the part that self-managed and cheaply managed accounts skip.
You might want a consultant to run everything, to review an account your in-house marketer manages, or to set up a new account properly before handing it back. We do all three, and we are clear about which one you are buying.
Our consultants work mainly on Google Ads, with Microsoft Ads where your audience uses Bing and Edge. If you also need landing pages or tracking changes, our own developers handle them, so you do not have to chase a separate web agency.
Ways to work together
How can you hire a Google Ads consultant from ProntX?
Choose a one-off audit, a set-up project, ongoing management or advisory support for your own team. Each has a clear scope and price before we start.

Account audit
A recorded video walkthrough of your Google Ads account: tracking, wasted spend, structure, bidding and landing pages, with the three changes we would make first. Our PPC audit is free for most accounts.
Project
Build or rebuild
For new advertisers or accounts that need starting again: conversion tracking, campaign structure, keyword research, ad copy and negative lists, launched and monitored for the first weeks.
Ongoing
Managed by a specialist
The consultant who audited your account runs it every week, with monthly reporting and a planning call. This is our standard Google Ads management.
Advisory
Support for in-house teams
Monthly reviews, a second pair of eyes on big changes and coaching for the person who manages your ads day to day. Useful when you want to keep skills inside the business.
First fortnight
What does a PPC specialist check first in a new account?
Measurement first, then waste, then structure. Changing bids or adding campaigns before tracking is reliable just teaches Google the wrong lessons faster.
1. Is the account counting the right things?
We check every conversion action, which ones feed bidding, and whether page views, duplicate tags or button clicks are being counted as leads. Enhanced conversions and Consent Mode v2 are set up so measurement holds up when cookies are declined.
2. Where is the money going?
The search terms report usually tells the story. We look for job seekers, students, free advice searches, competitors and irrelevant locations, then build negative keyword lists so they stop costing you.
3. Are the settings working against you?
Common culprits are “presence or interest” location targeting, Search Partners and Display switched on inside Search campaigns, and auto-applied recommendations quietly adding broad match keywords or raising budgets.
4. Does the structure match how you make money?
Brand and non-brand terms should have separate budgets, and your most profitable services should not share a budget with the ones you can barely staff. We restructure only where it helps, and we keep the history.
5. Is the bidding strategy right for the data?
Target CPA or target ROAS needs a steady volume of reliable conversions. Accounts that switch too early often swing wildly. We match the strategy to the data you actually have.
6. Do the landing pages deserve the click?
Slow pages, long forms and one generic page for every service all push cost per lead up. We test focused pages, built by our web design team when needed.
Choosing help
PPC freelancer, consultant or agency: which should you hire?
A freelancer suits a single stable account and a modest budget. An agency suits businesses that need ads, tracking and pages changed together. The best choice depends on who actually does the work.
| PPC freelancer | Typical agency | ProntX | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who logs in every week | The freelancer | Often a junior account executive | The senior specialist you met |
| Typical fee structure | Flat monthly fee or hourly | Retainer or 10 to 20 percent of spend | Fixed monthly fee by spend band |
| Landing pages and tracking | Usually your developer | Separate team or extra cost | Our own developers |
| Holiday and sickness cover | Limited | Yes | Yes |
| Contract | Usually flexible | Often 6 to 12 months | Rolling monthly |
| Who owns the ad account | Should be you | Sometimes the agency | Always you |
Questions to ask any PPC expert
- Who will be in my account each week, and can I speak to them directly?
- How will you measure lead quality, not just lead volume?
- What will you change in the first 30 days, and why?
- Will the account, data and conversion history stay in my name?
- How do you charge, and does your fee rise when my budget does?
Red flags we hear about from new clients
- Guaranteed results within days, or guaranteed positions
- An ad account set up in the agency’s name, not yours
- Reports that show clicks and impressions but never leads or sales
- No reply for weeks after the first month
- A long minimum term before you have seen any work

Pricing
How much does a PPC consultant cost in the UK?
ProntX PPC management starts from £450 a month plus VAT, with ad spend paid directly to Google. Audits are free for most accounts, and projects are quoted before work starts.
| Option | Price (ex VAT) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Free video audit | £0 | Anyone with an existing account who wants an honest second opinion |
| Managed account | From £450 a month | Businesses spending up to around £3,000 a month on ads |
| Larger accounts | Typically £650 to £950 a month | Several services or regions, Performance Max, CRM lead import |
| Advisory or set-up projects | Quoted on scope | In-house teams, new accounts and one-off rebuilds |

When is Google Ads not the right answer?
When the numbers cannot work: too little budget to learn, a lead value too low to cover the click cost, or a website that cannot convert the traffic yet.
Part of a consultant’s job is saying no. If a typical click in your sector costs eight pounds and only one visitor in twenty enquires, each lead costs around £160 before you have paid anyone to manage it. For some businesses that is a bargain. For others it never adds up, however well the account is run.
We work this out with you before you sign anything, using Google’s own keyword planner data and your real conversion rates where you have them.
Where paid search does not fit yet, we will say so and suggest the cheaper first step. That might be fixing the website, building a Google Business Profile, or starting with local SEO so the same searches bring free traffic over time.
That honesty is deliberate. Our contracts roll monthly, so we only keep clients when the work pays for itself.
Who we help
Who uses our PPC consultants?
Mostly UK service businesses and online shops where one good lead or order is worth real money, and someone follows up quickly.

- Clinics, dentists and private healthcare providers
- Trades and home services that live on phone calls
- B2B firms with longer sales cycles and CRM-tracked pipelines
- Ecommerce brands running Shopping and Performance Max
If you sell online, an ecommerce PPC consultant needs to understand feeds, margins and returns as much as keywords, which is why we run a dedicated ecommerce PPC service.

FAQ
PPC consultant questions, answered
Still unsure? Ask us anything. We reply within one working day.
How much does a freelance PPC consultant charge in the UK?
Rates vary widely. Freelance Google Ads specialists commonly charge a few hundred pounds to around £1,500 a month for ongoing management, or an hourly rate for advice, while agencies often use retainers or a percentage of spend. ProntX management starts from £450 a month with a fixed fee by spend band. Very cheap offers often mean an account is built once and then left alone.
Is a PPC consultant better than a PPC agency?
Neither is better by default. A freelancer can be excellent for a single, stable account on a modest budget. An agency makes more sense when ads, tracking and landing pages need changing together, or when you need holiday cover. The real question is who will be in your account each week and how they will measure lead quality.
What should a Google Ads specialist do in the first month?
Check conversion tracking, remove wasted spend from the search terms report, fix settings such as location targeting and Search Partners, and agree what a good lead looks like. Bigger structural changes and bidding strategy moves usually follow once measurement is reliable. Anyone promising instant results before checking tracking is guessing.
Do you take over accounts from other agencies or freelancers?
Yes. We join your existing account as a manager, audit it and keep what works. If your previous provider built the account under their own login, we help you request ownership or transfer access. We never move your campaigns into an account you do not own.
Can a PPC consultant guarantee results?
No honest consultant can guarantee a number of leads or a position on Google, because auctions, competitors and your offer all change. What we can commit to is the work: weekly optimisation, clear reporting on leads and costs, and a straight answer if Google Ads is not the right channel for you.
How much should I spend on Google Ads alongside the consultant fee?
Enough for the bidding to learn. For most local service businesses that means at least £1,000 to £1,500 a month in ad spend, more in competitive London sectors. We model expected cost per lead before you commit, and we will tell you if your budget is too small to justify a management fee.
Do you only manage Google Ads?
Google Ads is the core of our PPC consultancy, with Microsoft Ads where your customers use Bing and Edge, which is common in B2B and among older audiences. For Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok we have a separate paid social service, so you can keep search and social with one team if you prefer.
Can you train my in-house marketer instead of managing the account?
Yes. Our advisory option includes monthly account reviews, a checklist of what to look at each week and calls to talk through changes before they go live. Many small businesses start this way and move to full management later, or the other way round.
What happens if I want to stop?
Contracts are rolling monthly. You give notice, we send a handover note covering the current tests and our recommendations, and you remove our access. Your campaigns, audiences, negative keyword lists and conversion history stay in your account, so whoever takes over next starts with everything we built rather than an empty account.
