Quick answer

It suits new and growing online retailers who want a store that converts and that they fully own.
Good ecommerce web design does one job: it gets the right shopper to the right product and through checkout with as little friction as possible. ProntX designs and builds Shopify and WooCommerce stores for UK brands from £3,950, with product pages, search, shipping rules and tracking set up properly before your first order.
Where online stores usually go wrong
Most underperforming shops we review have the same handful of problems. Product pages that hide delivery costs until checkout. Collection pages that are slow on a phone because every image is full size. Filters that create thousands of near-duplicate URLs for Google to crawl. Analytics that count page views but not revenue. None of this is visible in a design mockup, which is why it gets missed.
How we build stores differently
We start with your catalogue, margins and customers, not a theme. How many products, how many variants, which ones drive profit, what questions people ask before buying, how you ship and what returns cost you. The store structure, page templates and checkout settings all follow from those answers, so the design supports how you actually trade.

Pricing
How much does ecommerce web design cost?
ProntX ecommerce websites start at £3,950 one-off, ex VAT. Larger catalogues, custom features and integrations with stock or accounting systems push the price up, and you get a fixed quote once we understand the scope.
| Package | Price (ex VAT) | Typical fit | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Launch store | From £3,950 | New brands or small catalogues, up to around 100 products | Custom design on a well-supported theme framework, core apps, standard checkout |
| Growth store | Typically £6,000 to £12,000 | Established shops, larger ranges, many variants | Custom templates, advanced filtering, bundles or subscriptions, ERP or inventory integration |
| Custom or headless | Quote | Multi-currency, B2B trade portals, unusual product logic | Scoped through a paid discovery sprint, built and released in stages |
If you are searching for cheap ecommerce web design, it is worth knowing where the low quotes save money. Usually it is an unmodified theme, no product data work, no tracking and no redirects from your old shop. Those gaps cost more in lost orders than they save. Our Launch package is priced for small brands, but it still includes the set-up that protects revenue.
Platforms
Shopify or WooCommerce: which is right for your store?
Shopify suits most brands that want to sell quickly with low maintenance. WooCommerce suits businesses that need more control, already run WordPress or have content-heavy sites. We build on both and recommend based on your situation, not our preference.
| Consideration | Shopify | WooCommerce |
|---|---|---|
| Running costs | Monthly plan plus app subscriptions and transaction fees | Hosting plus any paid plugins; no platform fee |
| Maintenance | Hosting, security and updates handled by Shopify | You or your care plan handle updates and security |
| Flexibility | Very good within Shopify’s checkout and data model | Almost anything is possible with custom development |
| Content and blogging | Adequate for most shops | Excellent, since it runs on WordPress |
| Best for | DTC brands, fashion, beauty, fast launches | Content-led brands, complex pricing, existing WordPress sites |
Conversion
What makes an online store convert?
Shoppers buy when they can find the product, trust the seller and understand the total cost quickly. We design each template to answer those three questions.
Find
Navigation and search
Menus organised by how customers shop, not your internal product codes, plus predictive search and filters that work on mobile.
Decide
Product pages
Clear photography, size and fit guidance, stock status, delivery dates and reviews placed where hesitation happens.
Trust
Reassurance
Returns policy, secure payment options, contact details and real business information visible without hunting.
Pay
Checkout
Guest checkout, express wallets, no surprise fees and as few form fields as your fulfilment allows.
Search and marketing
Will my store be ready for Google and AI shopping search?
Yes. Every store launches with the technical SEO and product data foundations that search engines, shopping feeds and AI assistants rely on.
Technical foundations
We set canonical tags so filtered and sorted pages do not compete with your main collections, write unique title templates for products and categories, and mark up products with price, availability and brand. Collection pages get introductory copy so they can rank for category searches, which is where many shoppers start.
For ongoing growth, our ecommerce SEO service builds on this with content, internal linking and digital PR.
Digital marketing for your ecommerce website
A store also needs traffic from day one. Clean product feeds mean Shopping campaigns and Performance Max can launch straight away, and our ecommerce PPC team can run them. Email capture and abandoned cart flows are switched on at launch, not months later.
See how the pieces fit together on our ecommerce marketing page.
Migration and timeline
How long does an ecommerce website take, and can you move my existing shop?
A typical Launch store takes 5 to 8 weeks and a Growth store 8 to 12 weeks, depending on catalogue size and integrations. We regularly move shops from Wix, Squarespace, Etsy, Magento and older WooCommerce or Shopify themes.
Data
Products, customers and orders
We migrate products with variants, images and SEO fields, plus customer accounts and order history where the platforms allow it.
Rankings
Redirect mapping
Every old product, collection and content URL is mapped to its new address with 301 redirects so search traffic and backlinks carry over.
Risk
Quiet switchover
We build on a private staging store, run test orders end to end, and go live at a low-traffic time with a rollback plan ready.
Who it is for
Which online retailers do we build stores for?
We build for UK brands at three stages: launching a first store, outgrowing a starter platform, or replatforming an established shop that has become slow and hard to manage.
Stage 1
New brands
You have products, a brand and perhaps an Instagram following, and need a store that looks established from day one. We keep the scope tight, set up the essentials properly and leave room to grow.
Stage 2
Growing shops
You started on Etsy, Wix or a basic theme and now need better filtering, subscriptions, wholesale pricing or a faster mobile experience. We rebuild around the way you now trade.
Stage 3
Established retailers
Your store works but carries years of apps, plugins and workarounds. We audit what is worth keeping, simplify the stack and move you to a cleaner build without disrupting orders.
Sectors we commonly work with include fashion and accessories, beauty and skincare, food and drink, home and garden, automotive parts and specialist B2B supplies. Each has its own buying questions: sizing for fashion, ingredients for skincare, fitment for car parts, and we design product pages around them.
After launch
What support do you offer once the store is live?
You can choose an optional care plan, ad hoc development or full independence. Most clients start with a few weeks of close monitoring and then decide.
The first month
We watch orders, payment errors, site speed and Search Console daily after launch, and fix issues quickly. We also review the first weeks of analytics with you to spot where shoppers drop out, whether that is shipping costs, a confusing size guide or a slow collection page.
Ongoing improvements
The care plan covers app and plugin updates, security, backups and a monthly allowance of changes such as new landing pages, seasonal banners or product template tweaks. It is a rolling arrangement you can stop at any time, and there is no penalty for managing the store yourself.

FAQ
Ecommerce web design questions, answered
Still unsure? Ask us anything. We reply within one working day.
How much does an ecommerce website cost in the UK?
ProntX ecommerce websites start at £3,950 one-off, ex VAT, for a Launch store with up to around 100 products. Established shops with larger ranges and integrations typically spend £6,000 to £12,000. Custom, multi-currency or headless builds are quoted after discovery. Platform fees, apps and payment processing are paid directly to those providers, and we list them in the proposal.
Should I use Shopify or WooCommerce?
Shopify is usually the better choice if you want to launch quickly, keep maintenance low and sell standard physical products. WooCommerce is better if you already run WordPress, publish a lot of content or need unusual pricing and product logic. We look at your catalogue, budget and team before recommending one, and explain the running costs of each.
What is included in your ecommerce web design packages?
Every package includes catalogue planning, custom design of the key templates, build, payment and shipping set-up, UK VAT settings, product import, schema markup, shopping feeds, GA4 ecommerce tracking, abandoned cart emails, accessibility checks, training and launch. Larger packages add custom features such as subscriptions, bundles, advanced filters or stock system integration.
How long does it take to build an online store?
A typical Launch store takes 5 to 8 weeks from kick-off to going live. Growth stores with more products, custom templates or integrations typically take 8 to 12 weeks. The main variables are how ready your product data and photography are, and how many third-party systems need connecting. We give you a dated plan at kick-off.
Can you migrate my store without losing Google rankings?
Yes. We crawl your current shop, record which product and collection pages bring in traffic, and redirect every old URL to the right new page. We keep product descriptions and SEO fields that already perform, migrate reviews where possible and monitor Search Console after launch. Rankings can fluctuate briefly during any move, but a careful migration protects the traffic you have.
Do I own my online store?
Yes. The Shopify or hosting account, domain, theme code, product data, customer data and analytics are all in your name. We work as collaborators on your accounts rather than owning them. If you later move to another agency, you keep everything and we will hand over cleanly.
Can you help with marketing after the store launches?
Yes. ProntX runs SEO, Google Shopping and Performance Max campaigns, paid social and email marketing for ecommerce brands, all on rolling monthly contracts. Because we built the store, product feeds, tracking and landing pages are already in place, so campaigns can start quickly. See our ecommerce marketing options.
Do you build B2B or trade ecommerce sites?
Yes. We build trade portals with customer-specific pricing, account-only catalogues, quick order forms, purchase order payment and integration with accounting or ERP systems. These usually fall into our custom tier and start with a short discovery sprint, so we can map your pricing rules and approval flows before quoting a fixed price.
