Social media marketing for law firms is less about going viral and more about being the familiar, credible name when someone finally needs a solicitor. ProntX plans, writes and manages social media for UK law firms: LinkedIn programmes for partners, explainer content for consumer practices and paid social campaigns, all reviewed against SRA expectations before anything is posted.
An honest view of what social does for solicitors
Few people search Instagram for a conveyancer. Owners on UK business forums make the same point, and they are largely right: search is where urgent legal enquiries start. What social does well is different. It lets business clients and referrers see your expertise week after week, gives nervous private clients a sense of who you are before they call, and makes your firm look active and current when someone checks you out after a recommendation.
Who we manage social media for
Commercial, employment and private wealth teams that win work through relationships; family, immigration and personal injury firms with consumer audiences who want to see a human face; and firms using social for recruitment, which is often where legal social media earns its keep fastest. Each needs a different platform mix and tone.
Platforms
Which social media platforms should a law firm use?
LinkedIn for business law and referrers, Facebook and Instagram for consumer practices, and short video only where a fee earner is comfortable on camera. Pick fewer channels and do them properly.
Partners first, firm page second
Individual solicitors’ profiles usually reach more people than the firm page. We help partners publish short commentary on cases in the news, rule changes and client questions, written in their voice and approved by them. The firm page then shares and amplifies. This suits commercial, employment, property and private client work aimed at business owners and introducers.
Facebook and Instagram
Plain-English explainers
Consumer practices use these to answer the questions people are embarrassed to ask: what happens at a first divorce meeting, how long probate takes, what a settlement agreement means. Carousels and short clips work well, along with team introductions that make the firm feel approachable.
Short video
TikTok, Reels and Shorts
Some solicitors build a real following with myth-busting videos. It works best for family, employment, tenancy and immigration topics with broad public interest. It needs a willing presenter and a firm approval process, so we only recommend it where both exist.
Paid social
Targeted reach
LinkedIn ads can reach HR directors, finance leads or business owners in specific sectors and regions. Meta ads can promote guides or webinars locally. Our paid social team runs campaigns with clear cost per lead targets.

Content ideas
What should solicitors post on social media?
Posts that answer a real client worry, explain a change in the law or show the people behind the firm. Here is the kind of content we plan for different teams.
Family
Calm, practical guidance
What to bring to a first meeting, how child arrangements are usually decided, the difference between separation and divorce. Tone matters more here than anywhere: reassuring, never sensational, never aimed at one side of a dispute.
Employment and commercial
Rule changes for employers
Short LinkedIn posts on new legislation, tribunal decisions in the news and checklists for HR teams. A partner sharing a clear take on a change often prompts direct messages from business owners who already follow them.
Private client and property
Life events and timelines
Why a will needs updating after marriage, what a lasting power of attorney does, typical conveyancing stages. Content aimed at the adult children of older clients works well on Facebook.
Alongside this we plan firm news, community work, trainee and recruitment stories, and team introductions with a photo and a line about each person. Recruitment posts are often the most shared content a law firm publishes, and good candidates check your social channels before they apply.
Compliance
What are the SRA rules for solicitors on social media?
Social posts are publicity, so they must be accurate and not misleading, and the SRA has warned that conduct online, including in a personal capacity, can lead to disciplinary action. Your compliance lead approves our calendar before it goes live.
The SRA’s warning notice on offensive communications makes clear that posts can be shared far beyond the intended audience, that privacy settings and pseudonyms offer little protection, and that resharing someone else’s offensive comment may be treated as endorsing it. It also encourages firms to assess the risk and consider a social media policy. We give you one as part of onboarding.
Confidentiality matters just as much. A reply to a comment that confirms someone is a client, or a “great result today” post with identifying details, can breach your duties even with good intentions.
- No posts implying guaranteed outcomes or “we always win”
- Client stories anonymised and approved in writing
- Fees mentioned only in line with your published price information
- No legal advice given to individuals in comments or messages
- Enquiries moved off public threads to your intake process
- Reviews and testimonials never edited or cherry-picked to mislead

FAQ
Law firm social media questions, answered
Still unsure? Ask us anything. We reply within one working day.
Does social media actually bring law firms clients?
Sometimes directly, more often indirectly. Commercial firms do win work through LinkedIn relationships, and consumer firms get some enquiries from Facebook and Instagram. The bigger effect is trust: people who see useful posts from your solicitors are more likely to choose you when a referral or search puts you on their shortlist. We report profile visits, website clicks and enquiries so you can judge it fairly.
Is LinkedIn the best platform for solicitors?
For business-facing practices, usually yes. Partners' personal profiles tend to outperform firm pages because people follow people. Consumer practices such as family or conveyancing often get more from Facebook and Instagram, where their clients already spend time. We recommend a primary platform based on who instructs you, not on what other firms happen to use.
Can solicitors post client testimonials on social media?
Yes, if they are genuine, used with the client's permission and not selected or edited in a way that misleads. Avoid anything that reveals confidential details or implies every client gets the same result. Your compliance lead should approve each one, and we keep a record of consent alongside the post.
Should our solicitors answer legal questions in comments?
Not with specific advice. A public reply can create the impression of a retainer, risk confidentiality and expose the firm if the advice is incomplete. General information is fine. For anything specific, we politely move the person to a private message or your enquiry form, then hand them to your intake team.
Can law firms use TikTok?
Some do well with it, particularly in family, employment, tenancy and immigration law where public curiosity is high. It needs a fee earner who is comfortable on camera, a clear approval process and realistic expectations, because views do not always translate into instructions. We test it with a short pilot before committing budget.
How often should a law firm post?
Consistency beats volume. Two to four quality posts a week on your main platform is plenty for most firms, plus occasional posts from partners. Posting daily with thin content can do more harm than good. We plan a monthly calendar so approval happens in one sitting rather than post by post.
Who approves posts before they go out?
You do. We send a monthly calendar with every post, caption and image, and nothing is scheduled until your nominated reviewer, usually the COLP or a marketing partner, has signed it off. Reactive posts about breaking legal news get a fast-track approval route agreed at onboarding.
Do you offer paid social for law firms?
Yes. LinkedIn ads suit employer-side employment, commercial and B2B services, while Meta ads suit local consumer guides and webinars. Ad spend is paid directly to the platform and management is quoted with your plan. See our paid social service for more detail.
