How do our website maintenance packages compare?

Each plan includes everything in the one before it. The differences are how carefully updates are tested, how often backups run, how much time is included and how quickly critical problems are handled.

Market prices

How much do website support packages cost in the UK?

Published UK prices cluster around £50 a month for entry plans, about £149 for mid-tier plans and about £330 for top plans. London agencies charge more, with entry prices nearer £150 a month.

Tier Published UK range Median What it usually buys
Entry £30 to £129 About £50 Updates, daily or weekly backups, uptime and security monitoring, a monthly report. Usually no included time, 24 to 48 hour replies and no WooCommerce.
Mid £60 to £329 About £149 Weekly and often staging-tested updates, daily backups, 30 minutes to 2 hours of edits, same-day or next-day replies, some speed work.
Top £85 to about £500 About £330 Hourly backups, 2 to 5 hours of development, fast critical response, out-of-hours cover, a review or strategy call.

Where these figures come from

In October 2026 we read the published pricing pages of 25 UK maintenance providers, from freelancers to London agencies, and four international services that UK buyers often compare against. The ranges above use providers with fixed published tiers. VAT treatment varies, since agencies mostly quote ex VAT and many freelancers do not say. Published hourly rates for extra work mostly sat between £30 and £60, with a median around £50. Treat all of this as a snapshot; providers change prices often.

Where ProntX sits

Essential Care at £79 is above the UK entry median but well below typical London entry pricing, and it includes things many entry plans leave out: malware clean-up (several providers charge around £99 per incident instead) and 30 minutes of edits. Growth Care at £149 matches the UK mid-tier median while adding staging-tested updates and 2 hours of time. Partner Care at £299 sits below the UK top-tier median with 4 hours and a 2-hour critical response.

Cost drivers

What affects the cost of a website maintenance plan?

Four things separate cheap plans from expensive ones across the UK market: included hours, response time, how safely updates are applied and how often backups run. The type of site you have decides how much of each you need.

Lever 1

Included time

Plans range from no edits at all to several hours a month. Check whether time is measured in minutes, tasks or vague “minor changes”.

Lever 2

Response time

Moving from a 48-hour reply to a 2-hour critical response is where much of the price difference sits, because it needs people on standby.

Lever 3

Update safety

Running updates straight on the live site is cheap. Testing them on a staging copy first takes more time but catches breakages before customers see them.

Lever 4

Backups

Weekly, daily or hourly, and kept for 30 or 90 days. More frequent backups mean less lost data, such as orders, if you ever need to roll back.

Your site matters too. An online shop needs checkout testing after updates, payment gateway checks and order email monitoring, which is why many providers only allow WooCommerce on their mid or top tier, or force an upgrade. We publish the cost instead: WooCommerce is a £40 a month add-on to Growth Care, making £189 in total, and it is included in Partner Care. Lots of plugins, custom code or integrations with booking, CRM or stock systems also add work. For new shops, see our ecommerce web design service.

Buyer checklist

How do you compare website maintenance providers?

Compare what is written down, not the headline price. Two £100 plans can be very different once you check the hours, response times and extras.

  • Is the price ex VAT or inclusive, and is hosting included or separate?
  • How much edit time is included, stated in hours or minutes?
  • Are updates tested on a staging copy or applied live?
  • Where are backups stored, how long are they kept and can you download them?
  • Is malware clean-up included or charged per incident?
  • Does an online shop cost extra or force a more expensive tier?
  • What are the reply times for critical and routine issues?
  • Is there a minimum term, and what is the notice period?
  • What is the hourly rate once included time runs out?
  • Will you own the code, content and backups if you leave?
Our answer to the last question

You own everything: domain, hosting account, website files, content, analytics and backups. ProntX works inside accounts that stay in your name, so leaving takes 30 days’ notice and nothing else.

Billing

Is it cheaper to pay for a maintenance plan yearly?

Yes. Pay yearly and you get one month free, so you pay for 11 months instead of 12. Monthly billing stays available with no lock-in.

  • £869Essential Care, paid yearly (ex VAT)
  • £1,639Growth Care, paid yearly (ex VAT)
  • £3,289Partner Care, paid yearly (ex VAT)

Annual billing suits businesses that want a fixed yearly budget line. Monthly billing suits anyone who wants to try a plan first. Across the market, annual discounts we found ranged from about 8% to 17%, and at least one provider offers none. New websites built by ProntX include three months of Essential Care free, so you can see how the service works before paying anything.

Scope

What is not included in our website support packages?

Plans cover keeping your site safe, working and up to date, plus the included edit time. Larger projects and third-party costs sit outside them, and we say so in advance.

  • New features, redesigns or new sections that go beyond your included time, which are quoted or charged at £65 an hour
  • WooCommerce support on Essential Care
  • Out-of-hours critical cover on Essential and Growth Care, which comes with Partner Care
  • Ongoing SEO, content writing and advertising, which are separate SEO and marketing services
  • Fees charged by third parties, such as your host, domain registrar or paid plugins and apps, which stay in your name

Moving to us from another provider? Sites we did not build start with a £149 health check, credited against your plan if you join, so we know what we are taking on. See all ProntX prices on our pricing page, or read how we handle problems day to day on website support.

FAQ

Website support package questions, answered

Still unsure? Ask us anything. We reply within one working day.

How much do website maintenance packages cost in the UK?

Published UK prices we reviewed in October 2026 put entry plans at around £50 a month, mid-tier plans around £149 and top plans around £330, with London agencies typically higher. ProntX plans are £79, £149 and £299 a month, ex VAT. The price mostly reflects included hours, response times, update testing and backup frequency rather than the basic updates themselves.

What is included in a website support package?

At ProntX every plan includes weekly WordPress, theme and plugin updates, daily off-site backups, uptime monitoring, a daily malware scan with clean-up, SSL and domain expiry checks, edit time and a monthly report. Higher plans add staging-tested updates, longer backup retention, form and checkout monitoring, more hours, faster critical response and speed work.

Which website maintenance plan is most popular?

Growth Care at £149 a month is our most popular plan. It suits business sites that bring in enquiries regularly, because updates are tested on a staging copy before going live, contact forms are monitored and uptime is checked every minute. It also includes 2 hours of edits a month and same-day replies, with critical issues handled within 4 working hours.

Is there a minimum contract on your website maintenance plans?

No. All three plans are rolling monthly and you can cancel with 30 days' notice. If you choose to pay yearly, you get one month free. Because your domain, hosting, files and backups stay in your name throughout, leaving does not involve any handover fee or buying back access.

Do your WordPress maintenance plans cover WooCommerce shops?

Yes, from Growth Care upwards. WooCommerce is a £40 a month add-on to Growth Care, making £189 in total, and it is included in Partner Care at £299. It is not available on Essential Care, because shops need checkout monitoring and more careful update testing. More detail is on our WordPress maintenance page.

Why pay for maintenance when WordPress can update itself?

Automatic updates install changes but do not check whether anything broke afterwards. A plugin conflict can take down a checkout or contact form without any warning. A plan adds testing (on a staging copy from Growth Care up), backups you can roll back to, monitoring that spots failures and a named team responsible for fixing them, with agreed response times.

What happens if I need more time than my plan includes?

Extra work is charged at £65 an hour for plan clients, compared with £75 an hour for ad hoc work. We tell you before going over your allowance, and larger jobs such as new sections or features are quoted in advance so there are no surprise invoices at the end of the month.

Are your website support costs quoted with or without VAT?

All ProntX plan prices are ex VAT: £79, £149 and £299 a month, £40 for the WooCommerce add-on and £65 an hour for extra work. When comparing providers, check their VAT basis, because some freelancers are not VAT-registered and quote totals, while most agencies quote ex VAT.
