Hotel and travel marketing
Hotel digital marketing that pays for itself in saved commission
One plan across search, ads, email and social, measured against the commission you stop paying OTAs, so every channel earns its place in the budget.
- Measured in net room revenue
- Guest data you actually own
- One plan, every channel
Quick answer
ProntX is a UK digital marketing agency for hotels, guest houses, tour operators and travel agents. We plan search, paid ads, email and social as one booking journey, track revenue through your booking engine, and judge every channel against OTA commission. Hotel digital marketing plans start from £595 a month on rolling contracts.
Hotel digital marketing should be judged by one test: does it bring guests to your own booking engine for less than an OTA would charge? ProntX plans search, paid ads, email and social for hotels and travel businesses as a single booking journey, then measures it against the commission you save. If a channel cannot beat that number, we cut it.
Who we work with
Independent hotels, boutique groups, inns, guest houses, serviced apartments, holiday lets, tour operators and travel agents across the UK. Most have the same problem: OTAs fill rooms or trips, but take a large slice of every booking and keep the guest relationship. Our job is to move the right share of that demand onto your own channels.
Why a joined-up plan matters in travel
A guest rarely books after one touch. They might see a reel, compare you on an OTA, read a local guide on your site, then search your name a week later. If each channel is run by a different supplier with its own report, nobody can see that journey, and the last click gets all the credit. We run digital marketing for the travel sector as one plan with one set of numbers.
The booking journey
How does a guest move from OTA browsing to booking direct?
Usually through research on several channels before a final brand search. Each stage needs a different job done well, and the stages connect.
Inspire
Social and content
Short video of rooms, food and the area, plus destination guides that appear in early research searches.
Compare
Search and metasearch
Ranking for qualified searches, appearing as an official booking option in Google’s hotel results, and fair rate parity.
Book
Brand defence and booking engine
Owning your name in search, and a booking path that works on a phone without surprise fees at the last step.
Return
Email and loyalty
Pre-arrival, post-stay and anniversary emails that turn one booking into repeat direct stays.
What is included
What does a hotel digital marketing plan include?
A hotel digital marketing plan from ProntX covers the channels that move bookings for your type of property, chosen from your data rather than a fixed bundle.
Search
Organic and paid search
Brand defence, qualified non-brand searches and destination content, with hotel PPC covering dates and room types that need a faster push.
Metasearch
Google hotel results
Your official site shown as a booking option alongside OTAs, with rates kept in line so the direct price is never the worst one on the page.
Social
Organic and paid social
Content that shows the stay, plus retargeting of website visitors who looked at rooms but did not book.
Guest lifecycle
Consent capture, pre-arrival and post-stay flows, seasonal offers and win-back campaigns to lapsed guests.
Website
Booking path fixes
Speed, mobile layout, clear rates and no hidden fees at the final step, because every channel ends on that page.
Reporting
One monthly view
Direct share, cost per booking by channel and commission saved, reviewed together on one call.
Budget timing
How should hotels plan marketing spend across the year?
Against your pace reports. Spend should rise on dates that are booking slowly and fall on dates that will sell out anyway.
A common waste in travel marketing is a flat monthly budget. Bank holiday weekends and peak summer weeks often fill without help, while a wet November midweek needs every channel working. We review your forward bookings with you each month and move paid spend, email sends and social promotion towards the gaps.
For tour operators the logic is the same, but the window is longer. A long-haul holiday or a small group trek can be researched for months, so the plan leans on content, retargeting and email nurture rather than one-off ads, and it tracks enquiries and brochure requests as well as confirmed bookings.
Attribution
How do you prove which channels drive hotel bookings?
By tracking revenue inside the booking engine, not just clicks, and checking it against your property management system. Most hotel marketing reports fail at this step.
Many booking engines sit on a separate domain, which breaks analytics: the guest appears to arrive from your own website and the original source is lost. In month one we fix that with cross-domain tracking, consistent campaign tags and a monthly reconciliation of reported bookings against actual arrivals and cancellations.
- Google Analytics 4 connected to the booking engine with ecommerce revenue
- Cross-domain tracking so journeys are not split in two
- UTM tagging rules for email, social, partners and printed QR codes
- Cancellations and no-shows deducted, not counted as revenue
- Cost per direct booking by channel, compared with OTA commission
- Monthly dashboard covering direct share, average daily rate and repeat guests
With this in place, conversations change from “the ads got lots of clicks” to “brand search cost us a fraction of commission per booking, non-brand search cost more but still beat the OTA, and Instagram ads did not”. That is how budget gets spent well.
Guest data
How do hotels build their own guest marketing list?
By capturing consent from guests during and after their stay, because OTA bookings often arrive with masked contact details you cannot market to.
Your guest list is the cheapest booking channel you will ever have, and it is the one OTAs make hardest to build. We set up consent capture at the points guests already interact with you: the pre-arrival form, Wi-Fi login, check-in, restaurant bookings and the post-stay feedback email. Every sign-up follows UK PECR rules, with clear opt-in wording and an easy way out.
Then the list gets used properly. Our email marketing work for hotels covers pre-arrival upsells such as dinner or late checkout, post-stay review requests, seasonal offers for past guests and anniversary reminders. A guest who stayed for a birthday last October is a strong prospect for this October, and a short, well-timed email costs almost nothing to send.
Rules that apply
What advertising rules apply to hotel and travel marketing?
Consumer protection law covers headline prices, reviews and claims across every channel. We build campaigns to meet it from the start.
- Headline prices include unavoidable fees such as resort, cleaning or booking charges, in line with the CMA’s guidance on unfair commercial practices updated in November 2025.
- Reviews are gathered and shown honestly, with no fake, filtered or undisclosed incentivised reviews, under the CMA rules that changed in April 2025.
- Influencer stays and gifted content are clearly labelled as advertising where required.
- Package holiday sellers show ATOL and ABTA details accurately where they advertise protected trips.
- Your general manager or compliance contact approves every price promise and claim before it runs.

FAQ
Hotel digital marketing questions, answered
Still unsure? Ask us anything. We reply within one working day.
Is a hotel marketing agency worth it for an independent property?
It is worth it if the agency can show its cost against the commission you would otherwise pay. Ask for a baseline first: your current direct share, cost per booking by channel and repeat guest rate. If an agency only reports clicks and followers, you cannot judge it. We start every hotel engagement by setting that baseline from your booking engine data.
Should hotels stop using OTAs altogether?
Rarely. OTAs bring guests you would not reach alone, especially overseas travellers and last-minute bookers, and some of those guests visit your website after finding you there. The aim is balance: fill low-demand dates through OTAs if needed, and use your own marketing to win repeat guests, brand searches and high-demand dates directly, where commission hurts most.
How do you track bookings from each marketing channel?
We connect Google Analytics 4 to your booking engine with cross-domain tracking, so a guest who clicks an ad, reads a guide and books on the engine's domain is recorded as one journey. We also add UTM tags to email and social links and compare reported revenue with your property management system each month.
Can we email guests who booked through an OTA?
Only in a limited way. Some OTAs pass on a masked email address rather than the guest's real one, so you cannot add it to a marketing list. The workable route is to capture consent during the stay, through Wi-Fi sign-in, pre-arrival forms or check-in, so that guest becomes someone you can market to directly next time.
What does digital marketing for a travel agency include?
For a travel agency or tour operator it usually means SEO for trip and destination pages, paid search for high-intent trips, email nurture for long-lead holidays, and social content that sells the experience. Protection messaging such as ATOL status needs to appear accurately where you advertise protected holidays, and price claims must include unavoidable fees.
How much does hotel digital marketing cost?
Our hotel digital marketing starts from £595 a month for a focused plan covering one or two channels. Multi-channel plans for groups or tour operators typically cost more, and ad spend is paid directly to Google or Meta from your own accounts. Contracts are rolling monthly, so you can stop with notice if the numbers do not work.
Which marketing channel brings hotels the most direct bookings?
It varies by property, which is why we measure rather than guess. For many independents, brand search and returning guests produce the cheapest direct bookings, while non-brand search and social build new demand at a higher cost. We compare each channel's cost per booking with OTA commission and move budget towards whatever beats it.
When should hotels spend most on marketing?
Ahead of the booking window for each season, not during the stay period itself. Summer and Christmas demand is researched months in advance, while short breaks book closer in. We build a calendar from your pace reports so spend rises when guests are deciding, and drops on dates that will sell regardless.
