- You own the site
Quick answer
ProntX designs and builds websites for UK hotels, guest houses, holiday lets, tour operators and travel agents. We integrate your booking engine or tour software, make pages fast on mobile, show ATOL and price details correctly, and set up tracking so you can see direct bookings. Travel web design starts from £1,950 as a fixed-price project.
A hotel or travel website has one job that matters more than the rest: getting a guest from “this looks nice” to a confirmed booking without sending them back to an OTA. ProntX designs travel websites around that job, with your booking engine or tour software properly integrated, fast mobile pages, and the price and protection details guests and regulators expect to see.
Who we build for
Independent hotels, boutique groups, B&Bs, inns, glamping and holiday parks, holiday let agencies, tour operators, specialist travel agents and activity providers. Our portfolio runs from travel booking apps to SaaS dashboards, and we bring the same discipline here: clear structure, fast pages, and no design choices that get in the way of booking.
What usually goes wrong
Beautiful homepages with a slow video header, a booking button that opens a mismatched third-party page, rates hidden three clicks deep, fees that only appear at the last step, and analytics that lose track of guests once they reach the booking engine. Each of those pushes guests back to the OTA tab they still have open.
Booking engines
How should a booking engine fit into a hotel website?
So guests barely notice the hand-over. The search box, the engine’s pages and the confirmation should look like one site, and analytics should follow the guest all the way through.
Option 1
Hosted booking engine
The most common setup for independents. The engine connects to your PMS and channel manager, and we style its pages and build a date search into your site.
Option 2
PMS website builder
Some property systems include a site builder. It is simpler to run but limits design, speed and SEO control, and ties the site to one vendor.
Option 3
Built-in booking or plugin
Suits small holiday lets, activities and tours with simple availability. Payments run on your own site, closer to an ecommerce build.
We are independent of booking engine vendors, so our advice is based on your property, not a referral fee. Whichever route you choose, we set up cross-domain tracking so Google Analytics records the full journey from first visit to confirmed booking.
Features
What should a travel website include?
The information guests check before they commit, on pages that load fast on a phone. The list differs for hotels and tour operators.
Hotels, B&Bs and holiday lets
- Date search on every page, with rates shown early
- Room pages with honest photos, size, bed types and accessibility details
- Visible direct-booking benefits, such as flexible cancellation or free parking
- Location page with travel directions, parking and nearby attractions
- Dining, spa, events and wedding pages with enquiry forms
- Hotel schema and Google Business Profile details matching the site
Tour operators and travel agents
- Trip pages with day-by-day itineraries and what is included
- Departure dates, availability and per-person pricing
- Filters by destination, activity, month and budget
- Deposit and balance payment flows where needed
- Enquiry forms for tailor-made trips, routed to the right consultant
- ATOL, ABTA and booking conditions displayed correctly
Protection and pricing
What travel rules affect website design?
Package holiday protection, price transparency and review rules all shape what goes on the page. We design them in from the start rather than bolting them on later.
- ATOL: licence holders selling flight-inclusive trips show their business name, ATOL number, logo and the correct ATOL statement, and place “ATOL protected” near protected prices, as set out in CAA guidance. ATOL Standard Term 1.3, in force from April 2026, also requires adverts for protected services to reference ATOL protection.
- ABTA and booking conditions: membership details and terms are easy to find before payment, not buried in a footer.
- Headline prices: unavoidable fees such as cleaning, resort or booking charges are included in the price guests first see, in line with the CMA’s guidance updated in November 2025.
- Reviews: any reviews shown on the site are genuine and not filtered to hide negative ones, following the CMA rules that changed in April 2025.
- Accessibility: clear access information for rooms and facilities, plus a site that works with screen readers and keyboard navigation.
We build the pages; your compliance contact or ATOL-holding manager confirms the wording and logos before launch.
Speed
Why does speed matter so much for travel websites?
Because travellers browse on phones, often on weak signal, and a slow page sends them back to a fast OTA app. Speed also feeds into search rankings.
Travel sites are image-heavy by nature, which is exactly why they need careful building. We serve modern image formats at the right size for each screen, avoid autoplay video headers on mobile, and load chat, review and map widgets only when a guest scrolls to them.
Every build is tested on real mid-range phones and against Core Web Vitals before launch. If you later want help ranking, our travel SEO team works from the same codebase, so there is no hand-over gap between design and search.
Project plan
How does a hotel or travel website project run?
In stages that protect your existing bookings and rankings, with launch timed for a quieter period wherever possible.
Weeks 1 to 2
Discovery
We review booking data, current search traffic, your PMS and engine contracts, and how guests move through the old site.
Weeks 2 to 5
Structure and design
Room or trip page templates, the booking search, and mobile layouts are designed and approved before any build starts.
Weeks 4 to 9
Build and content
Pages are built, photos optimised, the booking engine styled, and every old URL mapped to a new one so rankings carry over.
Final weeks
Test and launch
Test bookings on real phones, tracking checks, redirect checks, then launch outside your peak weeks with monitoring afterwards.
Photography often decides how well a travel website sells. If your images are dated or do not show room types accurately, we plan a shoot list with you before design starts, so pages are built around the pictures guests need to see rather than whatever is already in the folder. After launch we watch bookings, search traffic and errors closely for the first month, and fix anything that slipped through.

FAQ
Travel web design questions, answered
Still unsure? Ask us anything. We reply within one working day.
Which booking engine should our hotel website use?
It depends on your property management system, channel manager and size. Independent hotels often use a hosted booking engine that connects to their PMS. Some PMS providers include their own website builder, which is simpler but ties you to that vendor. We do not sell booking engines, so we can compare options with you and integrate whichever fits.
Can you redesign our site without changing booking engine?
Yes, and that is often the sensible route. We restyle the booking engine's pages as far as it allows, so the colours, fonts and header match your new site, and make sure the hand-off from website to engine is smooth for guests and fully tracked in analytics. Changing engine is a separate decision that affects your channel manager and staff.
What must a travel agent or tour operator website show about ATOL?
If you hold an ATOL and sell flight-inclusive packages, the CAA expects your website to show your business name, ATOL number, the ATOL logo and the correct ATOL statement for the products you sell, with 'ATOL protected' close to protected prices. Only licence holders may use the logo. Your compliance lead should confirm wording against current CAA guidance before launch.
How much does a hotel or travel website cost?
ProntX travel websites start from £1,950 as a fixed-price project for a smaller hotel or guest house site with an existing booking engine integrated. Tour operator sites with large trip catalogues, filters and departure dates typically cost more, and sites that take payments directly may sit closer to our ecommerce builds from £3,950. You get a written quote before work starts.
Why are hotel websites often so slow?
Large uncompressed photos, video headers, heavy page builders and several third-party widgets, such as chat, reviews and booking calendars, all loading at once. Guests on hotel Wi-Fi or rural mobile signal give up quickly. We compress images, load widgets only when needed and test on real phones, because speed affects both bookings and search rankings.
Can a website reduce our OTA commission?
A website alone will not, but it is where every direct booking finishes. If the site is slow, hides rates or adds surprise fees at the last step, guests go back to the OTA they came from. A clear, fast site with a visible direct-booking benefit gives your SEO, ads and email somewhere worth sending people.
Do tour operators need different website features from hotels?
Yes. Tours need departure dates, per-person pricing, group sizes, day-by-day itineraries, difficulty levels and often deposits or balance payments. Agents may need supplier feeds and enquiry forms for tailor-made trips. Hotels need room types, rate plans and availability. We plan the structure around how your guests choose, not a generic template.
Who owns the website once it is built?
You do. The domain, hosting account, code, content and analytics are in your name, and you get full admin access. If you later move to a different agency or bring the site in-house, nothing is held back. Booking engine contracts remain between you and the provider.
